Earthshine is a neat thing. It's like old light. I mean, all light is old, because there's always a delay between the time the light is produced to the time it hits your eye. But the light from earthshine (the dark part of the Moon that you can still make out quite easily during a crescent Moon phase once the sun has gone down or before the sun comes up), has to bounce off the Earth, up to the Moon, then back down into your eye. This extra travel makes this light about 2.5 seconds older.
